Survivors Giving Birth
Women with a history of sexual abuse or molestation often experience anxiety about pregnancy, birth and parenthood. It is important to learn positive coping strategies for managing the worries and strong emotions that changing bodies and new babies bring. In therapy you can:
- Predict and plan ways to overcome potential "triggers" during the birth and postpartum period
- Diminish symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that might emerge during the vulnerable time
- Learn how to change patterns of belief and behavior that might prevent a joyful birth and postpartum
- Make birth and breast feeding plans that address your special needs and sensitivities
